A famous and well known icon in downtown Kalamazoo. Only recently it opened for the public eye to see in its full capacity.
I have to say, very impressive but I was somewhat dissapointed. Not because it was not Grandiose and Beautiul, but alot of the ceiling and light fixtures were not from the original Castle. The sad thing is, it has changed hands, made into apartments at one time, sitting Vacant and just plain neglected for a long period so I guess in that situation it was likely to happen.
I have to say this was my biggest childhood facination. I wanted to be a princess in that castle.
Everytime we would drive by, I would beg my dad to slow down so that I could have the longest look at it possible. I would hold the memory in my mind through the rest of the day. Imagining myself in my beautiful ball gown, greeting my guests at the door, the men kissing my hand to greet me, the women, a small curtsy to say hello to the princess in the big beautiful house. surrounded by Crystal vases overflowing with roses, I would start the ball with the first dance, my prince leading me to the center of the floor all eyes on me I would dance and drink champagne late into the evening.
Yes my childhood fantasy. I wanted to pretend I lived in that house, even if it was only in my imagination.
This castle is now a Bed and Breakfast, and also used for meetings, Weddings and events. The nice couple that have bought the home have opened its doors to the community of Kalamazoo.
I can only imagine how excitting and romantic it would be to have your wedding inside this castle.
I took alot of pictures on mothers day but it was so dark and gloomy that day, it really does not give a good enough look into how beautiful this house really is. If you want to see more pictures you can go here and the link will take you to my flickr page.
My mom and I had a really good time, and relaxing. She was so surprised, had no idea we were having lunch there till I pulled up the driveway. This was a truly unforgetable mothers day.
